When the disposal stops, the whole kitchen stops with it.

A malfunctioning garbage disposal is more than inconvenient a leaking unit can damage the cabinet below the sink and create a moisture problem that leads to microbial growth. A jammed disposal that's forced can burn out the motor. And a clogged disposal line can back up into the dishwasher drain, making two appliances useless at once.

O5 Plumbing diagnoses disposal problems honestly. Sometimes it's a simple jam or reset and we'll tell you that upfront. When the unit is worn out, we'll recommend a quality replacement that fits your sink and usage level, and install it properly so you don't have leaks or connection problems down the line.

Won't Turn On

No sound, no hum, nothing. Could be a tripped reset button, a failed switch, or a dead motor. We diagnose it quickly and tell you exactly what it needs.

Humming but Not Grinding

The motor is getting power but the grinding plate is stuck. This usually means a jam forcing it further can burn out the motor.

Leaking Under the Sink

Leaks from the top, bottom, or side of the unit each indicate different problems sink flange seal, internal seal failure, or drain connection. All are diagnosable and fixable.

Grinding Noise or Vibration

Unusual grinding, rattling, or shaking usually means something hard is caught in the chamber or the grinding plate is worn and chipped. Time for a look.

Persistent Odors

Food buildup in the grinding chamber and drain connection causes stubborn odors that won't go away with cleaning products. A professional service clears the buildup for good.

What San Antonio Homeowners Say

"My disposal was humming but not spinning. Called O5 and the tech came out the same afternoon. Turned out the plate was jammed and just needed to be cleared. He showed me how to do it myself if it happens again. Charged a fair price for a quick visit. That's the kind of honest service that earns a customer for life."

Linda K., Helotes

"The disposal under our kitchen sink was leaking and had been for a while microbial growth had started under the cabinet. O5 replaced the unit, resealed everything, and pointed out the moisture damage so I could address it. They didn't just fix the disposal, they caught a bigger problem. Really appreciate the thoroughness."

Marcus W., Converse

"New house didn't have a disposal we wanted one installed. O5 quoted it honestly, showed up on time, and had everything connected and tested in under an hour. No mess left behind, no leaks, no issues. These guys are our go-to for all plumbing from now on."

Disposal Questions Answered

Straight answers about garbage disposal repair and replacement.

Yes the small red or black reset button on the bottom of the unit is the first thing to check. If it has popped out (a thermal overload from jamming or overheating), press it firmly until it clicks. Then try the wall switch again. If it still won't run, check your circuit breaker. If both are fine and it still doesn't work, call us the switch or motor may have failed.

A quality disposal used properly typically lasts 815 years. Units that are regularly jammed with hard objects, used without water running, or subjected to non-food items wear out much sooner. If your disposal is over 10 years old and starting to have problems, replacement is usually more cost-effective than repeated repairs.

Never put cooking grease or oil, coffee grounds, egg shells, fibrous vegetables (celery, artichokes, corn husks), pasta or rice, large bones, fruit pits, or non-food items down a disposal. Grease solidifies in the drain line downstream and causes serious clogs. Fibrous items wrap around the grinding plate and jam it. Starchy foods expand with water and pack into the drain.

A leak from the bottom of the unit almost always means an internal seal has failed the seals between the motor and the grinding chamber wear out over time. This is generally not a repairable condition; the unit needs to be replaced. A leak from the top is usually the sink flange seal, which is repairable. Leaks from the side typically involve the dishwasher inlet or drain outlet connections, which can be replaced without changing the whole unit.

Yes we install customer-supplied units. Call ahead to let us know the brand and model so we can confirm there are no compatibility issues with your existing plumbing setup. Keep in mind that labor-only installations are not covered under the unit's warranty if there are installation-related problems, but our workmanship is always guaranteed.
